Ironwood Development Meeting:  On February 25th, 2010, neighborhood members met at Catlin Middle School to learn more about the changes occurring at Ironwood.  The meeting was attended by approximately 150-200 residents of surrounding neighborhoods.

Ironwood was recently sold at public auction to a private developer.  Some neighbors recognized the name and said the developer has a good reputation.  Royalwood Homeowner’s Association seems to be heading the coalition of neighborhoods.  They have talked with an attorney and have decided to place him on retainer to help watch the progress of the development and facilitate discussions.  Donations were requested at the meeting to   help pay for the attorney fees.  Further donations will be requested at a later date.   An experienced   treasurer has been designated to watch over the funds.

The developer is planning on maintaining the golf course for two years until plans for the 125 acre property can be finalized. The current understanding is that the property will be mixed use (commercial, residential, retirement housing, and a nursing home are some of the   possible uses mentioned).   Councilman Franklin Thompson was on hand during the meeting and suggested having the developer come to a meeting of the neighborhoods to discuss their plans and learn about concerns.  Further discussions about the surrounding neighborhood concerns are needed.  The attorney will be present at the next meeting.  If possible, the event will be advertised on this website.  The meeting on February 25th was scheduled on short notice.

SW Precinct News: Capt. Todd Schmaderer has been promoted to Deputy Chief (he spoke at our last Neighborhood Meeting). Our new Captain is Michele Bang. We look forward working with her as the SW Precinct Commander.

Walking Patrol:  This Spring, the MTPG Citizen Patrol would like to begin a “Walking Patrol” in our neighborhoods. We have many neighbors who walk every day and would be good eyes and ears as a Walking Patrol.  We recently had a couple take the Patrol Training Course in January and are hopeful this will be the beginning of our new patrol.
